Singapore Gatka Akhara was founded in mid-2024 by passionate Sevadars in Singapore, inspired by a shared vision to uphold and promote the rich martial heritage of Sikhi. Recognising a gap in the cultural landscape, we aim to bring back the spirit of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s teachings, emphasising the Sant-Sipahi (Saint-Warrior) ideal that every Sikh should strive to embody, regardless of gender. Central to the Sipahi philosophy is the practice of Gatka, the traditional Sikh martial art, which highlights the importance of Shastar (weapons) in defending righteousness and fostering discipline (read our article for more info).
With the Grace of the Guru, our mission is to revive and grow the martial tradition of Gatka in Singapore—instilling in Sikhs the spirit of righteousness and the duty to protect those in need. We aim to offer regular training, workshops, and community events that promote both spiritual and physical growth. Gatka is more than a martial art; it is a way of life rooted in the Sikh values of justice, courage, and self-discipline, with Shastar Vidya (knowledge of weapons) at its heart.
To build a thriving Gatka community in Singapore where Sikhs of all ages embody the philosophy of Miri-Piri, and where Gatka stands proudly as a living expression of Sikh heritage within Singapore’s multicultural and harmonious society.
To preserve, promote, and teach the martial art of Gatka in Singapore as a living expression of Sikh heritage—fostering a spiritual discipline, and a commitment to serve and protect others.
